 Emperor Song recently lowered the prices of books which is boosting the number of educated citizens. Books used to be very expensive and now thanks to Emperor Song we have more schools and we have more books for more citizens!  

 

Emperor Song Invents Gun Powder

     Emperor Song & Chinese Alchemists Make Gun Powder

      In the early 1000's up in northern China gun powder was invented. Emperor Song had made many advancements and inventions during his rule but gun powder was by far the greatest. 

     Chinese Alchemists made gun powder by mistake. They were in the process of making an immortality potion but wound up making the deadliest weapon yet. 

     The Mongols were trying to invade China during that time period and the Alchemists were trying to make the immortality potion so that their warriors wouldn't die in war. But when they found out they made an explosive, they were just as happy as if it was an explosive.

 Reporter-Hello Emperor Song, thank you for sparing some of your time to come and answer my questions.

Song-No problem, lets get started

Reporter-Emperor Song you invented many things during your rule as Emperor, what do you feel was the most useful and why? 

Song- I feel that the most useful thing that was invented during my rule was actually just an advancement in the technology that was being used for the output in food, such as new strains of rice, improved method of water transport and ship-building. 

Reporter-Emperor Song, what do you feel was your greatest achievement and why do you feel so? 

Song-My greatest achievement was actually a bunch of different advancements that I made in a diverse group of areas. I improved the area of agriculture by advancing technology used for shipping goods. I improved the area of printing, which lowered the price of books, therefore boosting the numbers of citizens who were educated, and I invented gun powder which increased our strength of our army. 

Reporter-Emperor Song you improved the scholar-official test greatly what made you make that decision?

Song-The scholar-official tests were very hard. They were highly competitive civil service examinations. China's society was highly illiterate and the scholar-offcials had the "gift" of reading and writing. I however just considered it "the ladder to success"  therefore, more people went out to become scholar-officials.

     During the Song Dynasty Emperor Song improved China's economy by highly advancing the technology in the areas of agriculture, iron-working and printing. And to this day the people of China still consider Emporer Song as an economic revolution
